Cruelty

Through the course of Candy's life, she has faced the worst treatment of cruelty.

Mrs. Leegan is the witch who only adopted Candy so she could have a new servant.  Ever since Niels and Elisa played dirty tricks on Candy, Mrs. Leegan doesn't trust her and calls her a liar.  She also had the nerve to send Candy away to Mexico as a slave!
Elisa Leegan is the spoiled brat who never got her way and was determined to ruin Candy's life.  Elisa enjoyed taking part in ruining Candy's life with her brother Niels.  Yet she was very jealous and envious of Candy.  Candy had more friends then her, and Candy won the heart of Terry.   Elisa had a crush on Terry but he didn't even know she existed.  So Elisa was furious and stopped at nothing to get back at Candy.
Niels Leegan is the spoiled rotten evil boy of the Leegan family.  With Elisa Leegan, those two plotted evil plans against Candy.  He still was cruel to Candy even after she defended him against a bully!  Elisa and Niels hatched a plan and framed Candy for stealing.  Mrs. Leegan was furious at Candy and made her go on her hands and knees and say "I'm sorry, I made a mistake"  and Niels kept saying higher every time she didn't say it loud enough.  Near the end of the series, Candy was forced to marry Niels O.O   supposedly the orders came from Great Grandpa Williamson.  Of course Candy freaked and she went searching for the great grandfather.  It turns out Candy didn't have to marry Niels......good!
