Terrence looked at Susannah sleeping soundly in her bed. After the scare she gave him the day before he wanted to make sure she was happy and he would visit her every time he could. Yet, it was not her picture that came into his mind that particular moment. It was of Candy. Candy, his sweet Candy whom he had invited all the way from Chicago just so that he could never again let go of her yet it was not what he had planned.

[It seemed to be like the perfect thing for you and me]
[It's so ironic you're what I had pictured you to be]
[But there are facts in our lives we can never change]
[Just tell me that you understand and you feel the same]

But he had chosen Susannah, over Candy. He had a choice but he had to make the right decision. He would always love Candy yet he had to learn to love Susannah; for though she wasn’t his soul mate she would need him more than Candy did. Candy.... I had to let you go. You had to let me go. Maybe it was better this way.

[But yet we find ourselves in a less than perfect circumstance]
[And so it seems like we'll never get the chance]

The days turned to weeks, the week to months.... soon they would turn into years.... Terrence walked out of the office and up to Susannah. She smiled gently at him as if she understood.

"Good luck." She said before using her crutches to get back to her room. Terrence sighed and made his way out of the office. He needed to get out. He couldn’t face doing this anymore... his acting was suffering, so was his life. He needed his Candy.

Soon he was back to his old ways. Drinking and smoking, he needed Candy..... Candy.

Terrence stood bewitched as he saw the freckled girl standing behind the now hushed audience. There were tears in here eyes.

"This is an illusion!" he thought as he finished his act. "She would be angry with me... she would be disappointed.... first I imagine my mother in the audience, now Candy."

Memories... of St. Paul’s and of Candy... The Kiss... the dance... the airplane... Archie’s jealousies... he looked around the empty theatre. He needed to go back to Candy... no, to Susannah... Candy was in Chicago, away from him... nursing her patient’s back to health. Dearest Candy.

[I just believe that somehow it wasn't meant for me]
[Life can be cruel in a way that I can't explain]
[And I don't think that I could face it all again]

He couldn’t go to her, he had to go back to New York... to Susannah, to his future. He had to re-live his name before anything. He would still dream about Candy, Candy, Candy, Candy.

The train was leaving any moment now. Terrence looked out of the window. "I was sure I’d see Candy if I came here, but instead I saw the direction to the right path..." The right path was with Susannah. The woman he knew he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Good-bye Candy... one last time, our paths will never meet but you will always be in my heart. Susannah, I’m coming...
